Client Brief
Marshall Land Systems brings together Marshall Specialist Vehicles which provides integrated shelter and vehicle borne solutions such as field hospitals and ground control stations, Marshall Vehicle Engineering which provides protected logistics based on crew and load protection and Marshall Systems Design Group, which specialises in unattended vehicles, UOR work, EOD, EMI, EMC, Safety Cases and Consultancy.

Marshall Land Systems’ Role One Hospital systems are small surgical and emergency treatment facilities based on the ISO 20 ft footprint, capable of easy transportation in military cargo aircraft or by vehicle.  They are normally deployed in rough and difficult locations close to the front line fighting troops.

The Role One Hospital Systems required a specialist sliding system for the external 500kVA generators and Air Conditioning Units (ACU). The sliding system needed to be strong enough to cope with the 1600kg 500kVA generators and also provide an easy pull-out motion for maintenance access.

GSF Solution
Thanks to their wide range of heavy duty telescopic slides GSF were able to supply high load capacity, two beam telescopic slides called the Ballrace SR43. Made from large diameter ball bearings and heavy duty ball cages the Ballrace SR43 can resist high stresses and has a very high load capacity of up to 5,092kg per pair. The slider is nitride hardened providing precision movement even after numerous repetitions making the SR43 a perfect slide for the Role One Hospital Units.

Benefits
The slides have allowed the external 500 kVA generator to be maintained in situ without the need for removal using forklift trucks or other machinery. The same slides were used for the ACU’s and operators now have easy access without the need to use Manual handling equipment.

Feedback
“One of two systems has been used as a Forward Surgical capacity during Exercise Cold Response 2009. The field trials were very promising and reassuring. Through training and exercise the personnel grows confident with the equipment. As a direct result the deployment time was reduced from 2 hrs to 18 min.” Robert Lee, Project Manager.

Client: Anteon
Business: System Engineering Solutions
Offices: Peterborough.

Client Brief: Anteon provide mobile tactical shelters for the defence industry.  These tactical shelters come with numerous additional pieces of support equipment that need to be securely fastened for land, sea and air delivery. Anteon needed a secure, reliable stowage facility that could tie down kit whilst in transit.

GSF Solution: Within Anteon’s mobile systems various pieces of support equipment are required to be securely stowed  including sledgehammers, earth rods, tools and chairs.  This equipment needed a range of tool mounts that were exceptionally strong and would not damage the products they were transporting/securing.

GSF Promount the fast lock and instant release tool mounting system has the flexibility to store various pieces of kit without configuring or redesigning the storage space.

Benefits:  Promount is a fast lock instant release tool mounting system, which, being made from high grade polypropylene, doesn’t scratch or damage goods in transit.  The tool mounts are flexible, easy to fit and can easily be changed in line with new equipment updates.

Feedback:  “Promount is a rugged, robust tool mount that saves us time and money by offering a quick fit, easy solution without the storage design costs.  Were very happy with Promount and Anteon now use Promount as standard across the company.”  David Sandeman, Senior Design Engineer at Anteon.

Pickup Systems LogoClient: Pickup Systems
Business: Vehicle Converters
Offices: Blackburn, Lancashire
Client Brief: Pickup Systems provide compact storage solutions for the Utility and Fire Sectors. As sole distributors of ‘Avenger Work-style’ truck tops they are able to produce an all-round storage solution vehicle that provides easy access to necessary tools and equipment as well as being easy for operators to use.

RIV- all round accessWith the creation of the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), specifically for the fire sector, it was soon apparent that they needed two separate slide systems.

Firstly a cost effective slide that could still provide an extension of up to 1400mm and cope with a 75kg load for the Utility Spec Vehicle. And secondly a more rugged slide system that was able to provide a full extension of 1700mm and cope with a full load capacity of 90kg for the Fire Sector.

GSF Solution: The GSF Container slide was an ideal solution for the Utility Spec Vehicle. This 3 beam, full extension, general purpose drawer slide is engineered from cold rolled steel for extra strength.

“Cost effective and able to withstand heavy loads the Container slide was perfect, exactly what we needed” John Mcgauley, Director, Pickup Systems.

RIV- RA7 SlideFor the RIV’s larger drawer size and greater load capacity GSF suggested the RA7 Slide. The RA7 telescopic slide, made from drawn steel sections and caged carbon ball bearings, has been designed for exactly this type of heavy-duty load.  GSF’s RA7 is strong enough to withstand heavy punishment and be constantly reliable in harsh environments making it perfect for the RIV.

Benefits
: GSF’s extensive range of high strength, fully field tested products have enabled Pickup Systems to utilise a small amount of space to its maximum potential. Since working with GSF, Pickup Systems have also adopted the GSF Slide and Tilt System and the Pro Mount Tool Mounting System.
"Pro Mount is a space saving, economic storage solution that can be used simply and efficiently by a gloved hand, perfect in an emergency situation." John Mcgauley.

Client: Denney Equestrian
Business: Professional Carriage Drivers
Offices: Isle of Man (on the road!)

Client Brief: For professional carriage drivers Sue Denney and Simon Willis lead an exhausting lifestyle. As British champions their business is racing, which means six months every year they are on the road living in a horsebox. Apart from obvious restrictions like lack of amenities, the weather and the practicalities of running a successful business on the road, they needed a horsebox that was more than just a home. To overcome the numerous problems Dan Twitchin, from Principle Horse Boxes, decided to add an extra large single cabin, designed to contain the bathroom, which meant dropping the extend on both sides of the vehicles. The team decided that they would operate the extendable pod via hydraulics. Once extended an additional 9sqm of space was added to the vehicle. The problem was finding a slide strong enough to take the weight and that could be easily repairable.

GSF Solution:
GSF’s RA7 telescopic slide, made from drawn steel sections and caged carbon ball bearings, has been

designed for exactly this type of heavy-duty load. The triple bar-design means it is strong enough to take heavy punishment and be constantly reliable in harsh environments.

Benefits:
Powered by hydraulics the RA7 slides mean Dan has managed to build an impressive mobile home, horsebox and office space. Rough environments and heavy load capacities meant access for maintenance was hugely important; for these reasons alone the RA7 a perfect choice. The length of the slides was also a major factor, they needed to be strong enough to take the load and short enough to fit on the vehicles. Again the RA7 is a perfect solution and once fixed to the hydraulics, the slides can be ‘kicked out’ smoothly and quickly.

Client:  Heskin Fabrications
Business:  Steel and framework fabricators

Offices:  Leyland, Lancashire.

Client Brief: Heskin Fabrication’s client, on winning a new scoreboard contract at Rangers Football Club, asked them to design and build a steel frame to house the sixteen one metre-square PC boards, but experience told the designers at Heskin that a machine lever system would be too dangerous to operate at such height.  As such, the company’s team of engineers realized they needed a manual slide system, which, not only had a strong load capacity and was easy to repair, but also allowed maintenance crews access to the electronics.

GSF Solution: The GSF’s RA7R telescopic slide, made from drawn steel sections and caged carbon ball bearings, has been designed for exactly this type of heavy-duty load.  With load ratings from 340kg for 300mm closed length to 130kg for 1500mm at full extension GSF’s RA7R was strong enough to slide the screens manually.

Benefits:  Since a mechanical system couldn’t be used to ‘kick out’ the screens a smooth draw system was needed to make access possible.  GSF telescopic slides and linear motion systems are renowned for their high strength and ease of use, meaning a more safer and secure load capacity on shorter rails.

Feedback:  “The only we had to fit the steel frame was during a Rangers away game; subsequently deadlines were tough, but GSF delivered their slides and made adjustments within that the time frame; they did a great job.”  Jon Finnan, Design Engineer / Head of Industrial Design, Heskin Fabrications.
